A Fond Farewell

Hello Everyone,

With the news of school not returning for the rest of the school year, there have been many things planned and prepared for that we now have to create new ways of expressing. One of these things is the announcement of the departure of one of our very own, Mr. Edwin Serrano, Assistant Band Director. Mr. Serrano joined the Archbishop Riordan Faculty in February 2016 during the height of the Super Bowl 50 performances, the band's tour to Canada, and the planning for the tour to Rome, Italy to name a few. To be "thrown into the fire" as to all things Riordan Band in just a few months would be an understatement. Ever since, Mr. Serrano has been a tremendous asset to the band and the Riordan community as a whole. Please watch this short video message from Mr. Serrano himself:

On a personal note, Mr. Serrano has been a tremendous friend and colleague throughout the last 4.5 years. Working in this field becomes part of your life and I am blessed that he has been in it. We have had plenty of ups & downs, but we always came through even the most challenging situations and made sure we did our best for the students. That being the case, I would personally like to say it has been an absolute pleasure working with him. I wish Mr. Serrano the best in all of his future endeavors and I know he will always be part of the Riordan Band Family! Please feel free to send Mr. Serrano some words of gratitude.

FUTURE STEPS

As this was in-plan before the pandemic started, we already took the steps to search for a new Assistant Band Director. Until it is official, we will wait to announce with respect to Mr. Serrano's departure. Mr. Serrano will be finishing the school year as normal and be active during the Summer months.

DISTANCE LEARNING / ASSIGNMENTS UPDATE

With all of this news, we wanted to make sure the above was the main subject of the TWIB. However, we also wanted to thank the students for the influx of late assignments in these last few days of Riordan's distance learning. Mr. Serrano and I will be grading them throughout the week, so if you still have some assignments to do, make sure to take some time and complete them. This way we are able to give you feedback in a reasonable amount of time and, if needed, give you time to redo them.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We will keep you updated on all other items later this week.
