4/6 General Update
Greetings Everyone,
First off, it is my hope that all of you are doing well during this challenging time. As a band family, know that we keep everyone in our thoughts and prayers through thick and thin. If you've been receiving the communications from the administration at Riordan, then you are as up-to-date as possible in regards to happenings with the school, as that is usually when Mr. Serrano and I find out our information, too. All of the decisions that we make for the band will be in response to this information/guidelines set forth by the school/Archdiocese. We will continue to do our absolute best to keep you updated in all things band, however we do ask for your continued patience.
HAWAII TOUR
Vendors are getting back to Mike Wallace in terms of the rescheduling to sometime in December.
Waiting on some "big ticket" items (i.e. Hotel, etc.), as they are getting swamped with requests.
Being mindful of personal/family finances during this time, we are doing the absolute best to ensure the cost of the tour remains the same.
ARHS Administration Approved a December Itinerary
Looking between two date sets in December: 1) Pearl Harbor Week 2) Christmas Break
We know more seniors/families may be able to go during Christmas Break, however we have to keep overall cost in mind, as that time usually skyrockets prices for both hotel and airlines.
Still know you cannot go?
We still have to wait for the information back from the vendors. Many are swamped, as mentioned above.
BRT and the school are asking for your continued patience in this matter.
If you signed up for the CFAR (Cancel For Any Reason) Insurance, you are welcome to contact BRT about that.
Numbers & New Attendees
We also must keep the numbers of the tour up in order to keep the cost low, as that is the reality of group travel.
The Basic Rule is this: The more people attend = the less you have to pay.
Once the date is set we will open the tour back up to incoming students and current students who may not have been able to go before.
If our number drops far below our original number, we may be forced to cancel altogether.
SPRING CONCERT / AWARDS BANQUET
If classes resume in May and/or social distancing rules are eased:
The Spring Concert will still happen, albeit much shorter and limited music (little to no rehearsal).
The band awards would likely be given at the Spring Concert OR
The band awards can be given at the school Awards Ceremony.
If classes do not resume in May and/or social distancing rules are in effect:
The Spring Concert / Awards Ceremony would be cancelled.
We would still distribute awards to those who earned them in some manner.
Band classes would take an online / distance final.
We will research possibilities of a virtual meeting or gathering for the end of the year (especially for Seniors!)
LEADERSHIP INTEREST / AUDITIONS (Due Friday, April 24)
Note: Even if you currently hold the position, you must state your interest for next year!
If you are interested in being a SECTION LEADER next year:
Email Mr. H & Mr. S of your interest.
Make sure to indicate your name and section in your email subject line.
If needed, a few questions will be sent back to you to answer. This will serve as your "interview".
If you are interested in being part of the BAND STAFF next year:
Email Mr. H & Mr. S of your interest in one of the following positions:
President
Vice President
Logistics Manager (Equipment/Loading/Unloading)
Uniform Manager
Music Librarian
If you are interested in being a DRUM MAJOR / ASSISTANT DRUM MAJOR next year:
Email Mr. H & Mr. S of your interest.
We will send some information back to you and have you answer some questions via email.
If needed later, we may ask you to take a video of your work with a mace OR submit a video of an L-Pattern that you think best represents your ability.
Once leadership is determined for next year, we will discuss who can or cannot attend California Leadership Academy at Chapman University in July.
DISTANCE LEARNING UPDATE
All band classes have some assignments on Schoology for you to complete.
Lessons and assignments have been posted since March 11.
There are still many students who have yet to complete assignments on Schoology.
Personal communication will be sent out this week to those who seem to be "inactive" in any of the band schoology classes.
Attempt to use Spring Break to catch up with some of the assignments you may have missed.
You should be logging in and checking Schoology DAILY for all of your classes.
Mr. H and Mr. S are doing their best to get grades updated into PowerSchool as they come in throughout the week.
If you cannot complete a performance assignment because you left your instrument at school, you must let us know. Those assignments will be extended in the case we are back to school at a later date. If not, we will update you once we have more information.
If you have personal belongings at school or in the band room, we will wait for more information about when and how to collect those, if need be.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns going into Spring Break. We wish you and your family a Happy Easter!
